What to Expect From a Roofing Estimate

roofer-admin • Feb 07, 2020

Getting the roof replaced on your home can be daunting. These things aren’t cheap, and you want to make sure that you are getting the best contractor to do the job. If you’re like most people, then you are probably planning on calling a few places to get a roofing estimate on how much it will cost for roof replacement.

We definitely recommend doing this, as it’s the best way to find the roofer that will work for you. However, it’s important to remember that when looking at the estimate, price isn’t everything. Sure, it’s a big part, but there are other things to consider. The first is that if you get an estimate that is lower than the others, this may not make them the best company. You have to determine if the company offers warranties and look at the type of material they are using on their roof.

On the other hand, you might also be able to find a company that is offering discounts. Perhaps they are running a special during a slow time of the year or celebrating the fact that they’ve been in business for a while. This could make their price lower than the competition, and if they offer quality roofing and service, they may be worth checking out.

We recommend looking for a company that offers middle of the road pricing that aligns with average prices in the area. That will ensure that you are getting quality roofing.

In addition to the price, there are some other things you can expect when it comes to getting a roofing estimate. These include the following.

Your Roof Will Be Inspected

As a roofer, the only way we know for sure if you need repairs or roof replacement is to inspect your roof. Thus, when you call us for an estimate, we will come to your home and look at your roof. We will probably even climb on top of your home to get a better idea of what we’re dealing with. You don’t have to worry about us, though. We do this for a living, so we are really good about getting up and down ladders safely. However, in some cases, we can tell by staying on the ground what your home needs.

You May Need to be Present

If you have a leak or other issue that you want us to look at, then it’s advised that you are home when we come to look at your roof. That way, you can point out exactly what you are concerned about and ask any questions that might arise. Of course, if you don’t want to be home, you don’t have to. However, it can make the process go easier and smoother.

It Probably Won’t Take That Long

When it comes to the inspection, this usually doesn’t take a huge amount of time. Depending on the size of your roof, we may be able to get up and down in a matter of 30 minutes. For the most part, we should be able to determine what repairs your roof needs just by checking out the exterior. However, depending on the extent of damage, we may need to go into the attic to check the roof’s structure. That’s when being at home is beneficial (for both of us). Even if we need to go inside, it shouldn’t add much more time to the inspection process.

The Roofing Estimate Will Be Put Together

After we have inspected your roof and determined the steps that need to be done to correct any problems, we will then put together an estimate. Some of the things included in the price will be material costs and labor costs.

When you get your roofing estimate, it’s important to remember that this is just a guess. The final price of what it takes to repair or replace your roof will depend on if we run into other problems. This might include finding damage that wasn’t visible during the inspection or you changing your mind about the type of roofing material you want.

Should you decide that you want to make changes, doing so after you get the estimate is advised. If we know in enough time, we can put together another estimate to give you a better idea of what the final price might be. This is also the best time to ask any questions that you might have. We want to ensure you are informed and happy with the roof that will be placed on your home.

Your Repairs Will Be Scheduled

Once you have determined that we are the right company to replace your roof, we will then schedule your repairs. How soon we can get to you will depend on the severity of roof damage and our schedule. We will try to get to you as soon as possible, but you may have to wait a few days before work can be started on your new roof.

Having to get a roof replacement or repairs can be stressful. Your roof is incredibly important when it comes to keeping your family and belongings safe, and you want to make sure you are working with a professional who uses quality materials. Knowing what to expect during a roofing estimate can make you feel better and give you an idea of what to expect from the process.
